Owen Burns was walking home from school on an ordinary afternoon when he heard his sister scream. He was annoyed by her anxious screams and found nothing negative in her cries for help.
But when he turned to look out the window, he was shocked, but immediately got over it and made a decision that saved his life.
Owen Burns was getting ready to play his favorite game, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, on his PlayStation 3 when he heard his sister screaming from the backyard. A 13-year-old girl got upset because she thought she was crazy.
Later, while the teenager was in his bedroom, he saw a stranger trying to drag his eight-year-old sister into the woods near their home.
In desperation, the teenager pulled out a gun and collected nearby objects, including marbles and stones that could be used as ammunition. He shot the captor between the eyes. He was hit a second time in the chest. Swore. “He swore,” Owen told the media.
The meeting took place at Burns’ home in Alpena, Michigan, in broad daylight. Sister Maggie Burns said abductions are unusual in the area.
Her 8-year-old sister was clearly scared, but remained unharmed until the end of the encounter. Michigan State Police have not released the identity of the 17-year-old kidnapper, but confirmed he will be charged as an adult.
At a press conference, Lt. John Grimshaw praised Owen’s “extraordinary” actions, saying: “It looks like… either he saved my sister’s life or something bad happened to him.” Youth is nothing but heroic!
He went on to say that the young man’s courage should be commended. The teenager used a standard flex bullet, but there is nothing special here. It was on sale so it was $3 for his mom. The teenager would sometimes go out in the backyard and practice shooting with old orange juice cans, which he said helped improve his aim.
The boy said he had only one thought when he saw the kidnapper trying to kidnap his sister. All I could think was that if a stranger managed to kidnap my sister, he might kill her or make her a sex slave. The kidnapper “came up behind her and grabbed her like you see in the movies. He gagged her and put his arms around her waist and tried to drag her into the woods,” Grimshaw said of the incident.
At that moment, Owen grabbed his rifle and opened fire on him. After the kidnappers rescued her sister, she ran home crying and told her sister that she almost died. Owen ran, cursing his captor. He threw a baseball at him but missed. A third attempt later failed when the catapult rubber exploded. Then he tried to hit her again.
On the way home from work, the brothers called their mother, who came to help them with a relative. After hearing calls from anxious and confused children, she rushed home and called the police. He could pronounce the term “kidnapper.”
“I was in shock for days.” Maggie admitted. The 17-year-old kidnapper was found hiding at a nearby gas station. He was later charged in Alpena County Circuit Court with attempted kidnapping, attempted assault, and assault and battery. According to a police press release, “he had obvious signs of trauma to his head and chest, consistent with injuries sustained from being pushed.”
Maggie is skeptical of her son’s claim that he hit the kidnapper in the face and chest from 200 yards away. However, the police confirmed this and revealed that while the suspect was speaking, a marble goose egg sprouted on his forehead. You said I always lied. Owen said to his mother. “I couldn’t believe it.” he answered. “It didn’t ring real until it was confirmed. It looks like something out of a movie.
The teenager replied, “Mom, things in movies can and do happen in real life.” This young man is a hero!
