There are some songs that almost everyone in the world is familiar with.
Simon and Garfunkel’s “The Sound of Silence” is a timeless classic.
It was released in 1964, but it received poor reviews. The band actually disbanded.
So awful was it, really.
In 1965, Boston and Florida audiences were the first to take notice of the song.
It has been cited, mocked, and of course covered by various musicians over the past 45 years.
It can be uplifting or spooky, and generations have loved it and will continue to love it.
The Chicago heavy metal band Disturbed created the most recent noteworthy cover.
The band decided to perform the song live on Conan after the cover was made public because it gave the song new life.
The cover performed by David Draiman of Disturbed on Conan has received 90 million views on YouTube, making it the most popular segment from Conan’s show. Simon himself has praised the performance.
Then again, is there room for one more amazing cover?
The song is performed by 16-year-old Ruben Liversage, who is amazing.
David Draiman’s performance of the song makes the most of his wide vocal range, highlighting in particular his deep and powerful voice.
Anyone who performs a cover of his song would need to have a voice with a similar gravitas.
Does a 16-year-old possess the necessary skills to compete with Draiman’s rendition?
You bet, if that 16-year-old is Ruben Liversage!
And rather than just him singing into a microphone, his presentation features a full dance band and background singers.
They can clearly see that Ruben is a singer who merits investing time and effort in bringing to the forefront for a school concert.
His performance starts off with just him on a cloudy stage, shadowed by spotlights as he introduces the song with the necessary frightened tone.
This young talent’s voice immediately strikes us as powerful.
Two contemporary dancers join Ruben in the performance, and their daring lifts necessitate both strength and balance, adding professionalism and an air of creative collaboration to the piece as a whole.
Ruben eventually moves into the illumination.
It’s hard to believe that this kid is only 16 years old at this point in the show!
If you only used your ears, you might be excused for believing that David Draiman was singing live.
Ruben, on the other hand, doesn’t have “snakebite” lip piercings or a bald head.
Isn’t this young man handsome?
When you think the show has reached its peak, it suddenly gets even better!
To help Ruben, a horde of background singers and dancers have flocked to the stage.
If you didn’t already feel like you were at a formal event for the next big thing in music, you most definitely do now.
There will be lots of opportunity for practice.
This is pretty impressive, especially given that they’re teenagers.
Excellent entertainment, indeed!
