Cats are known to be very independent. They often spend their days exploring nature, only coming in for food and bathroom breaks. This self-sufficiency makes them low-maintenance pets. However, if your cat’s fur is not groomed regularly, it can quickly become a problem.
Hidey, a cat owned by a person suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, was an unfortunate victim of neglect. His owner was unable to take care of him and left him alone for many years. Animal rescuers eventually found Heidi and were surprised by her appearance. His fur is so wavy and tangled that he looks like an octopus.
The Pittsburgh Animal Rescue League Shelter and Wildlife Center, where Hidi was taken in, said Hidi had been neglected for two years. Some of his fur locks were six to eight inches long.
Thankfully, veterinarian Jenn Levitzki came to Hidey’s rescue. She shared a video of the grooming procedure on Facebook, exclaiming, “Hidey has the worst matting I have ever seen; she has dreadlocks.” Before the procedure, Hidey was gently put to sleep to ensure her comfort.
“Our Medical team shaved off pounds of intertwined fur from her body, and needless to say, this cat is feeling so much better now!” shared the shelter on their Facebook page, as reported by People magazine.
After undergoing an incredible transformation, Heady found a new home with a distant relative of the previous owners. But this heartwarming story reminds us how important it is to take care of our older friends and pets.
We should try to visit our elderly relatives and neighbors from time to time. Doing so can make a difference in their lives. In this way, we can ensure that both they and our pets are healthy and growing well. If we don’t ask, we may never know they are struggling.
Let’s all take a moment to share this amazing story of salvation with our family and friends. Together, we can spread the message of compassion and remind everyone to take care of their aging loved ones and companions.
