Graduation Season: A Time to Spread Words of Wisdom
Graduation season is in full swing and there are many rousing speeches from graduation speakers. But there is one word that has captured the hearts of many. Lydia Owens, a graduate of Woodmont High School in Piedmont, South Carolina, gave a fearless and confident speech that was truly memorable.
Accept faith and overcome difficulties
As with most of her talks, Lydia began by sharing her personal struggles and how she overcame them to get to where she is today. But what made his speech stand out even more was his heartfelt speech to his classmates.
“You are more than your accomplishments,” Lydia said, urging her peers to reevaluate how they perceive their own worth. “If your identity is based solely on success, what happens when you fail? “What happens when money and fame seem to disappear?”
The inspiration behind Lydia’s faith
Lydia credits her unwavering faith to her wonderful mother who guided her. Reflecting on her mother’s influence, Lydia said, “She was an example of a godly woman and taught us to be intentional about loving others.”
Change of perspective
Unfortunately, Lydia lost her mother, which greatly influenced her approach to success. He realized that the years in which he was defined only by his academic achievements could not have lasting meaning. His perspective on success underwent a radical change and opened his eyes to a deeper understanding of what really matters.
A new approach to success
Lydia’s farewell speech was unusual, but it resonated with her audience, including me! He offers a unique perspective on the concept of success and sheds light on the incredible pressure we put on ourselves to achieve it. I now realize that our worth is not determined by what we achieve, but by the love and kindness we show others.
