Being a mother means always putting your child’s safety first. Phyllis Pena, a brave mother from Texas, demonstrated that fearlessly when she confronted a man who was peeking through her 15-year-old daughter’s bedroom window. The incident occurred in broad daylight just after 7 a.m. on January 31st. Pena spotted 19-year-old Zane Hawkins creeping up to her daughter’s window. Realizing that her daughter was in danger, she took action.
When Hawkins tried to run away, police chased him. But just when Hawkins thought he could escape again, Pena had the audacity to grab him. This heroic act was captured on one of the officers’ dashcams.
Sergeant Roy Welch praised Pena, saying, “It’s not every day you come across someone who is willing to put themselves at risk to arrest someone.” Mr. Pena was fully aware of the risks he was taking. However, he had no hesitation in protecting his precious children. “My children are my life and I’m just trying to protect them,” she said.
Hawkins was then arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, fleeing and resisting arrest. Thanks to Pena’s quick thinking and courage, justice was served.
We should admire Phyllis Peña’s unwavering dedication to keeping children safe. Her selfless act reminds us that a mother’s love has no limits.
