Ty Pennington is updating his fans on his condition after being hospitalized and intubated just hours after attending the Barbie premiere.
On July 14, Pennington, who is best known for playing the carpenter on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, uploaded pictures of himself dressed in a hospital gown to Instagram.
Before Pennington regained consciousness, he was intubated at one point. This past week has been interesting, from the red carpet to the intensive care unit.
Pennington continued, “I’m okay now, still recovering but I felt it looked weird that I hadn’t posted about my teams BOTB VICTORY! SO freaking proud of @smashingdiy and @iamstevelewis!!”.
Pennington went on to describe the particulars of what happened. To clarify why I disappeared, I attended the red carpet for @barbiethemovie on Sunday, traveled to Colorado on Monday to start the Breckinridge production, and woke up at 4 a.m. m. Tuesday, I could hardly breathe. It turns out that the sore throat I’ve had for a month is an abscess that has grown so large that it is obstructing my airway. The next instant, I was intubated and whisked away to the Denver ICU.
“I had surgery on Wednesday, and yesterday afternoon I was discharged from the intensive care unit. I want to express my gratitude to the amazing staff at Summit Health in Frisco and St. Anthony’s in Lakewood, Colorado for taking such great care of me. Pennington’s caption, “Just happy to be here,” along with the hashtag serve as a great reminder to listen to your body when it’s trying to communicate with you.
We are so relieved to learn that Pennington is now doing well and is making a full recovery—how frightening!
