A cancer awareness event that Diana’s relatives hosted features the two. Diana is seated on a chair at the end of a dance floor, surrounded by family members and friends who are occupying purple-upholstered tables and chairs.
Little Mckenna is holding the microphone and is standing in front of her mother. Mckenna doesn’t seem to be aware of the crowd around her. She sings to her mother, who is the only person in the room, keeping her gaze fixed on her.
When Diana is sobbing and lip-syncing to one of their favorite Martina McBride songs, Mckenna says, “When you’re weak, I am strong,” to which Diana responds.
At the conclusion of the song, Diana reaches out her arms to her daughter, and Mckenna advances to give her a bear hug.
This video received millions of views and supportive comments when Ellen Degeneres first posted it. Ellen invited Diana and Mckenna to appear on her show a week later.
Diana was surprised when Martina McBride made her stage debut during the interview. Mckenna and Martina sing a duet of the well-known song on the show. Ellen then presents the mother and daughter with a check for $20,000 as if that weren’t enough. Diana expresses her joy and gratitude.
