The Oscar-winning actress who played Bond struggles with macular degeneration.
Judi Dench talked about how her illustrious acting career has been affected by the diagnosis of macular degeneration, which impairs her eyesight, in a rare new interview.
The 88-year-old English actress, who is open about her health issues, clarified whether or not they will force her to give up acting in an interview with The Mirror’s Sunday magazine Notebook.
Fortunately, Dame Judi Dench has stated that despite the fact that her vision is failing, she still plans to work “as much as I can.”.
She explained, “I mean I can’t see on a set any longer. I can’t read because I’m too dim. The result is that I hardly notice anything. You are aware of how to deal with it, though. Get on.
It’s difficult for me to handle segments that are even marginally lengthy. I still don’t know how. mainly because a large number of my friends are willing to teach me the script. My memory, though, is photographic.
In 2012, the Academy Award-winning actress disclosed that she had macular degeneration, which results in one eye becoming “dry,” resulting in blurry center vision, and the other becoming “wet,” resulting in blind areas.
Dame Judi says she has no plans to retire anytime soon.
The worst shock to the system, said Dench. Ghastly. It’s terrible to be so reliant on others.
At a BBC Esio Trot screening in 2014, just a few months before turning 80, the seasoned actress reaffirmed her commitment to working well into her golden years. Hearing anything different did not interest her.
The actress first admitted to having macular degeneration in 2012.
She continued, “I want to see for myself whether I can’t do it rather than being told you might have a fall or you can’t learn your lines. I don’t want to be told I’m too old to do something.”. Let me try, please. Let’s all give it a go.
She added that age is just a number. You were coerced into doing it. I find it extremely annoying when people enquire about my retirement plans. Or, tell me your age.

I’ve never been truly upset until I was 40 years old, for some reason. I had a serious emotional breakdown right around the time I turned 40, but I bounced back pretty quickly. It’s been said that you’re only as old as you feel. Age is unrelated and has nothing to do with it; it has something to do with the inside. The motor, that is.
