Phil Collins, the well-known drummer and lead singer of Genesis, has achieved great success in the music business throughout his illustrious career.
Along with Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson, he is one of only three musicians to have sold more than 100 million records both individually and collectively. Collins, who was raised by creative parents in London, England, on January 30th, 1951, was first exposed to music at a young age.
At the age of five, he acquired a homemade drum kit from his uncle that included tambourines, triangles, cymbals, and small drums; this action would eventually give rise to his distinctive sound.
As The Shadows and other crucial bands led the way, the English beat scene started to take shape. Collins would later lead this movement and frequently play social events that were sponsored by his parents’ boating club.
Collins was introduced to rock and roll at the tender age of fourteen, and was moved to buy a record player and Please Please Me by The Beatles. He would put the record player on loud and play the drums in front of a mirror so he didn’t have to look at what he was doing.
Because reading drum music was necessary if one wanted to play in a dance band or orchestra pit, he decided to enroll in drum lessons from a tutor. Collins realized right away, though, that playing intuitively was far superior to reading music.
When Collin came across an advertisement for a drummer who belonged to Genesis in the 1970s, his life took an astonishing turn. Collins contacted them, and they welcomed him on board, starting his illustrious musical career.
They had a number of songs that went on to become iconic classics that we still adore throughout their five albums as The Beatles. Due to a lack of qualified candidates, Collins quickly assumed the role of the band’s lead singer.
Although it took him some time to adjust to playing the drums and singing at the same time, he persisted and eventually made himself known as one of the best musicians of our time.
As a member of the legendary band Genesis and a solo artist, Collins enjoyed enormous success in the music industry. He rose to the top of the music business thanks to hits like “In The Air Tonight,” “You Can’t Hurry Love,” and “I Don’t Care Anymore.”.
After 25 years with Genesis, Collins made the decision to pursue a different musical career, concentrating on jazz projects, movie music, and his solo endeavors. Though he expressed his hope for his former bandmates’ successful futures, when 2017 arrived he decided to reteam with them for their Last Domino world tour.
Sadly, this tour had to be delayed due to the pandemic, and right before it started, Phil gave an interview to BBC Breakfast, which raised some questions about his health. Despite this setback, the band intends to reunite and play live once more, with Nicholas Collins on drums and Phil taking over the vocals.
Despite the fact that Nic is an excellent drummer, Tony Banks claimed that he could make the early Phil Collins songs even more impactful than they already are.
Phil responded, “I’d like to, but I can hardly grip a stick with this hand,” when asked why he wasn’t playing the drums anymore. Despite the difficulties it does present, Phil has not let physical limitations prevent him from pursuing his passion for music.
Our age-group storyteller described his physical struggles with a palpable sense of loss. He regretted not being able to travel with his son and share in his adventures.
He was still deciding whether or not he wanted to continue traveling due to his health. His words gave off the impression that he had accepted the fact that some activities were no longer appropriate for him to partake in.
He found it difficult and demanding to decide whether to keep traveling the same path or stop going on excursions. He understood that, whether by choice or physical necessity, he would eventually have to give up something he loved. He was burdened by the thought of passing up many opportunities in life as a result of this sudden change in circumstances, and he felt overwhelmed by it.
