The veteran “Today” anchor and weatherman claimed to take showers twice a day during a lighthearted on-air argument, despite dermatologists’ recommendations for a few times per week.
Al Roker, host of Today, was open about his disagreement with a dermatologist’s advice regarding how frequently to shower.
After Adrianna Barrionuevo Brach, the editorial director of Shop TODAY, said dermatologists advise taking showers two to three times per week, Roker and co-hosts Sheinelle Jones and Dylan Dreyer had a lighthearted discussion about how frequently people should wash their hands during the third hour of Tuesday’s broadcast.
When asked whether he would choose to take a daily shower, Roker remarked, “I don’t care what they say, I’m going to say ‘A.'”.
Roker couldn’t hide his disdain as Brach explained that experts in skincare advise taking fewer showers each week.
“Two to three times per week is generally accepted, but it varies from person to person.
“What is this?” I’m asking myself as I stare at Al,” Brach said.
“It depends on the individual, their way of life, how much time they spend in the sun, how old they are, and how active they are.
”.
Brach says that how often you shower is a matter of personal preference, to which Roker responds, “Not if you come into contact with other people!”.
Jones said, “There are seven days in a week,” and Dryer remarked, “Adults smell. ”.
Later, Jones had a change of heart and admitted that she could see how the concept made sense in terms of preserving the skin’s natural oils and avoiding dry skin.
You have natural bacteria that live on your skin and are a part of your microbiome, and you shouldn’t interfere with them because they help to protect you, according to Brach. I can’t stop staring at Al. “Things could get dicey when you’re scrubbing and using soap and abrasive detergents. ”.
Jones referred to Roker’s admission that he takes two daily showers as “too much” as the debate came to a close. ”.
The hosts then discussed how frequently they should clean their dishwasher (once a month), change their bedding (every 18 to 24 months), and their luggage (every time they use it).
This episode on Tuesday is not the first time the hosts’ cleaning or showering practices have generated amusing discussion.
Roker responded with startled facial expressions as his coworkers discussed their washing practices during a heated discussion on how frequently people should wash their clothes in February.
Roker claimed in the laundry dispute in February that “the average person perspires a cup of sweat every night.”.
Shower discussions on the Today show date back to 2017, when Roker made the first reference to his twice-daily showers during a debate over whether to take a shower in the morning or at night.
When Dryer mentioned that she takes a 20-minute shower, Roker questioned, “What are you doing in there, a crossword puzzle?”.
