Alec Baldwin Addresses Critics Following Controversial Instagram Post

Alec Baldwin Faces Backlash on Instagram After Controversial Post Featuring Wife and Son

Alec Baldwin made a return to Instagram, sparking immediate controversy with his first post. The photo depicted his wife, Hilaria, and their son, Leo.

In a caption meant to be playful, Baldwin wrote, “The old ‘let me give you a back rub’ ploy.” However, some commenters criticized Baldwin, feeling the caption sexualized what they saw as an innocent and sweet moment. One commenter expressed, “That’s a pretty weird comment to make on a photo of your son and his mother ????.” Another called the caption “disgusting.” Baldwin later responded in the comments with, “Potato chips to follow,” seemingly trying to lighten the mood amidst criticism.

His return to Instagram follows the tragic shooting incident on the set of his film Rust, resulting in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. Baldwin and the film’s weapons handler, Hannah Gutierrez Reed, are both facing involuntary manslaughter charges. Assistant director David Halls has pleaded guilty to charges related to the incident, having handed Baldwin the gun and deeming it safe before the fatal accident.

Reports indicate the investigation found the gun functional and able to fire only when the trigger was pulled, contrary to initial beliefs that it contained no live rounds. Despite the tragedy, filming for Rust will continue, with Halyna Hutchins’ husband, Matthew Hutchins, becoming an executive producer.

Baldwin has not yet publicly commented on the criminal charges. Meanwhile, his wife, Hilaria, has asked for privacy for their family during this difficult time.
