As a young child, Shane spent countless hours preparing her firewood with her father. This tradition made such a strong impression on him that he wanted to pass it on to his 21-year-old sons. Little did they know that their shared passion for firewood would lead to an amazing act of kindness.
The McDaniel family, who live in Lake Stevens, Washington, faced a difficult challenge after a severe storm. Fallen trees and hurricane damage left the family with mountains of firewood. But they saw an opportunity to turn this abundant wood into something meaningful.
Recognizing the needs in the community, the McDaniels decided to donate firewood to those who needed it most. “The Pacific Northwest is a pretty harsh, cold, humid place, so once I started, it opened my eyes to see the need for it,” Shane said. We just started offering it because so many people stopped and asked to buy it.
This amazing project then unfolded over several months from March 2018 until October 2018. Shane, Henry, and Harrison devoted their time and energy to harvesting firewood. result? Eighty trucks full of firewood are ready to bring warmth and comfort to those in need.
Shane used social media to spread the word and find the recipients of this generous donation. The response was overwhelming. People not only admired the family’s dedication but also offered to help distribute firewood to those unable to collect it themselves.
The results of this initiative were not limited to providing firewood. Shane said: I see a sense of pride and empathy that they didn’t have before. When you do something nice for someone, people won’t forget it. I like helping people. ”
