The rescued owl makes an amazing recovery
In a heartwarming story, a Pennsylvania Wildlife Center nursed a great horned owl back to health after suffering an injury. A baby owl named Lucky was rescued from a litter after being trapped for two days. The poor animal was dehydrated, emaciated and covered in manure, requiring several baths to clean it up.
Long road to recovery
After arriving at Raven Ridge Animal Center, Lucky needed immediate care and attention. Tracy Young, an animal rehabilitator who lovingly cared for the owl, described her condition as “reduced” from exhaustion from the ordeal. Lucky also suffered serious eye injuries when a steel BB lodged in his eye. It was later reported that he was illegally shot with a BB machine gun.
Rescuers had to wait patiently for the blood from Lucky’s eyes to drain into his body to assess the extent of the damage. Meanwhile, Lucky was getting much-needed fluids and nutrition through a tube. Washing him was also important to the recovery process. Despite the hardships, the resilience of the owl is amazing.
Miraculous return
After a thorough investigation, the rescuers discovered some surprising news. Lucky suffered no permanent eye damage or vision loss. It was a pleasant surprise for all participants. What appeared to be an uncertain journey to recovery gradually turned into a triumph of patience and gentle care. Over time, Lucky’s appearance has improved dramatically. His eye, which had once shown signs of injury, returned to normal within weeks. The nature center now plans to complete the extraordinary transformation by returning the animal to the wild in the fall.
