Notice a Guy with One Painted Fingernail? Here’s the Meaning Behind It

The power of a young girl’s request
Elliot Costello met a gorgeous girl named Thea while traveling in Cambodia. This seemingly chance encounter had a profound impact on her and inspired her to start a movement to combat child sexual abuse.

Thea, who paints her nails every day, once asked Elliot to paint one of her nails while she was talking to him. She willingly agreed without knowing what was behind his request. It was later revealed that Thea had been sexually assaulted.

“When she painted my nails, I promised her that I would keep them so I could remember her and watch her suffer,” Elliott said. Birth of the #PolishedMan movement
Based on Thea’s story, Elliot sets out on a mission to change relationships between men to reduce the number of children who are sexually abused. This led to the #PolishedMan movement, where men paint one of their nails as a symbol of the one in five children who have been sexually abused.
Polished Man’s main goal is to end child sexual abuse.

By joining this movement, men are committing to confront and address violent behavior and language locally and globally. According to Elliott, men are responsible for 96% of child abuse worldwide. To end this epidemic of violence, men must take the lead in driving change and reform. It stimulates conversation and inspires action
Painted nails act as conversation starters and encourage discussions about the prevalence of child abuse. It aims to stimulate new prevention strategies and serves as a visual reminder of the urgent need to protect vulnerable children. In addition to raising awareness, Elliott encourages people to donate to support educational programs and resources for child abuse survivors.
