At 19, Noone attended his first Alcoholics Anonymous meeting with his father, a heavy drinker. Though he didn’t consider himself an alcoholic, the experience highlighted the importance of sensitivity and performance readiness. Consequently, he reduced his drinking and has abstained for the past 16 years, though he supports his wife, Mireille, if she chooses to drink.
Noone and Mireille have been happily married for 43 years, a romance that began when he was 20. Their love story started during a holiday in Ibiza, where Noone persistently pursued her. They have one daughter, Nicole. Noone left Herman’s Hermits in 1971, as the band members sought different paths.
In the 1980s, Noone’s career continued to flourish on new stages, including a Broadway role in “Pirates of Penzance” and as a host on the U.S. TV show “My Generation.” He also mentored and coached on “American Idol,” comparing the experience to the Beatles’ journey and noting that the Beatles might not have fared well in a TV competition.
