Simon Cowell, a well-known TV personality, has experienced a number of health problems, most notably following two separate bicycle accidents in the past two years.
During his appearance on the most recent episode of the Today Show with hosts Terry Crews, Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum, and his fellow America’s Got Talent judges, Simon spoke candidly about these incidents.
The 63-year-old celebrity, who had previously crashed his e-bike in Malibu in 2020, met a similar end while bicycling in London in the early years of 2022.
Simon was questioned about the profound effect that these mishaps had on his outlook on life during a promotional video for the upcoming 18th season of America’s Got Talent.
Regarding his physical condition prior to the catastrophes, he said, “I wasn’t in the best shape before the mishaps, so they were far from terrific, rather quite terrible.”. I didn’t realize how unfit I was until after the subsequent healing process.
Simon recognized his continued enthusiasm for riding and said he believed these things happened for a reason, “It was a revelation, a true god’s moment!”. I’m not giving up on my bike, he cried, much to the delight of his fellow actors. These two-wheel marvels have me completely enamored.
It was discovered that Simon most likely had a concussion and a fractured arm following the second incident, and he was immediately taken to the hospital. Even though the second collision wasn’t as severe as the first, it still left him with a broken back and the need to wear a wrist brace for several weeks.
In response to these occurrences, Simon changed his lifestyle, focusing on Eric, his son who is nine years old. Simon’s fiancée Lauren Silverman served as his inspiration.
He openly discussed his experience coping with the fallout from the e-bike injuries in an interview with The Sun in April of the previous year. I thought about going to therapy for the first time in my life when I fractured my back because I was in such a terrible place, he said.
I was miserable and had a hard time getting my feelings across to Eric. I questioned if I’d ever be able to engage in strenuous physical activity with him once more, like playing football or simply going for a walk.
In 2014, Simon and Lauren welcomed Eric on Valentine’s Day. In a later interview, the TV personality claimed that his child had given him a great nickname as a result of the bike accidents.
When she got home after watching the episodes, Britain’s Got Talent judge said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight that she felt a little “embarrassed.”.
Simon found solace in the fact that his child compared him to the well-known superhero Iron Man despite the fact that he now has metal rods and screws in his back as a result of the surgery. Simon smiled as he recalled, “When I reunited with my family, Eric said, “Dad, you look like Iron Man. I grinned slyly and replied, “Yeah, I’m like Iron Man, indeed.”.
Since then, Simon has gained the ability to laugh at his misfortunes, making fun of his more serious injury that occurred in June 2021 while he was working on the AGT set.
Terry, as inquisitive as ever, questioned Simon at a family-friendly tryout performance if he could see himself performing risky stunts like the father-son team performing a Shaolin Kung Fu routine.
After breaking his back, Simon joked to the two of them, “I got to the point where I would wander around the garden with Eric, believing it was a great accomplishment. But I was unable to question whether it was a good idea.
Simon’s courageous and introspective journey shows the unbreakable spirit that drives him forward. Despite the challenges caused by the bicycle accidents, he keeps living joyfully and maintains his love for riding while also finding humor in his experiences on the road.
