Tiger Woods knows how to create memorable family moments on the golf course, and his recent experience with his daughter Sam was no exception. During the PNC Championships at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, 16-year-old Sam stepped into the role of his caddy for the very first time. This event brought a new level of joy to their golfing tradition, which typically sees Woods accompanied by his 14-year-old son, Charlie, in family tournaments.
With a bright smile, Sam enthusiastically carried her father’s golf bag and even drove him to the next hole in a golf cart. At 47 years old, Tiger Woods couldn’t have been prouder of his daughter’s efforts. He shared his feelings with GolfWeek, saying, “Sam was fantastic. This is the first time she’s ever done this, so it couldn’t have been any more special for all of us. For me to have both of my kids inside the ropes like this and participating and playing and being part of the game of golf like this, it couldn’t have been more special for me.”
This tournament experience offered a unique family dynamic that surpassed their usual playful interactions during home golf outings. Normally, Woods takes on the role of caddy for Charlie during junior events, but this time he experienced a shift in perspective. Charlie humorously commented on his father’s caddie skills, joking to GolfWeek, “For dad as a caddie, his reads are hook-bias, and I don’t hook as much as he does. So all of my putts, I miss right. So, I have to account for that.”
Sam Woods first captured public attention in March 2022 when she delivered a heartfelt speech at her father’s induction into the World Golf Hall of Fame. During her speech, she reflected on the challenges their family faced following Tiger’s serious car accident in Los Angeles. She praised her father’s resilience, acknowledging his groundbreaking achievements as the first Black and Asian golfer to win a Major and his ability to overcome health struggles.
In her touching remarks, Sam celebrated her father’s fighting spirit, expressing gratitude for his recovery. She stated, “About a year ago, you were stuck in your hospital bed at one of your ultimate lows, at one of the scariest moments of your life and ours. We didn’t know if you’d come home with two legs or not. Now, not only are you being inducted into the Hall of Fame, but you’re standing here, on your own two feet.”
Witnessing the admiration and love that Tiger Woods’ children have for him is truly heartwarming. The special bond they share on and off the golf course highlights the enduring strength and significance of family connections.
