If you’re looking for an uplifting story that will restore your faith in humanity, look no further. Delve into this touching story of compassion between two strangers at a Walmart in Princeton, Texas, in December 2018. It all started when a customer faced a dilemma.
Her grocery bill came to $110, more than she could afford. Feeling overwhelmed, she turned to a kind-hearted cashier, John Lopez Jr., who was only 19 years old at the time, for help. Without thinking twice, John decides to lighten the burden by paying for all the groceries. When he reassured her, “I understand,” a flood of relief washed over her grateful client.
John said that deep down he felt the need to help by following what he believed to be a message from the Lord.
The power of this act of generosity has not gone unnoticed. Another customer, Lacey Smith, was able to capture the beautiful signing moment in a now-deleted photo of John. She felt she had to share her amazing story on her Facebook and it quickly spread across her social media. The kindness shown by John touched the hearts of countless people.
As soon as possible, the GOFUNDME page was created to support John College Fund. The response from the community was overwhelming, with a whopping $37,000 raised for education funds. This truly incredible show of support once again highlighted the impact her one act of kindness can have on people’s lives.
In recognition of John’s outstanding achievements, his employer held a special event in his honor. Event organizer Brandon Weddle expressed his deep respect for John’s dedication. Princeton Mayor John Mark Caldwell was also in attendance and presented John with a certificate in recognition of his generosity.
