Touching Moment: School Volleyball Referee Overwhelmed with Joy as Teams Surprise Him with Cars

After his car broke down, 76-year-old Lemuel Buster took it upon himself to rent a car so he wouldn’t miss a game. Buster is a referee for the parks and recreation division in the Georgian county of Paulding.

The experience Buster gained playing volleyball has influenced his devotion to and commitment to his children. When he was in the Navy, he participated in the sport, so he is excited to do it now.

Buster’s car broke down and he was unable to fix it, so he decided to rent a car instead. Parents and kids who saw him use a car rental service to travel to their games were aware of this.

In order for Buster to purchase a new car, the volleyball players and their families began to covertly amass money. The referee was not informed of this. This community came together to support this worthy cause thanks to Lemuel Buster’s unwavering dedication to his students.

It was not in vain that the community made an effort. The father of one of the players and the owner of a used car lot also decided to stand by the reputable referee.

They all gathered in the school gym to give Buster the money they had collected. A Chrysler Sebring convertible, $1,000 in cash, a $25 Walmart gift card, free meals at McDonald’s, and—most significantly—these gifts—were the neighborhood’s thanks for his work.

Stepping outside the school gym, Lemuel Buster began to sob with happiness when he saw his car. The referee was able to drive himself home after saying “thank you” to everybody.
