The music mogul had a health issue while the movie was being filmed.
Simon Cowell has a reputation for having a quick wit and making incisive comments, so it surprised many when the 63-year-old appeared more reserved than usual during season 18 of American Idol.
Simon stayed silent, but not out of disinterest, as co-stars Heidi Klum, Sofia Vergara, and Howie Mandel talked about auditions.
Due to a medical issue, which he discussed in an interview, Simon hasn’t been speaking much on American Idol season 18 of AGT.
He said, “I believe what happened was that my vocal cords were burned by stomach acid. I could see how badly burned my nose and throat were when the doctor came over and put a camera up my nose and down my throat.
”.
I literally couldn’t talk because there was so much I wanted to say, he continued. “We tried to write things down. I once used an iPad tablet to save information I’d previously mentioned. I tried to use Sofia to translate for me, but she deliberately said the wrong things.
Therefore, chaos reigned.

For a week leading up to the auditions, Simon claimed he was unable to speak, but that this gave him time to think.
All I could do was listen for about seven days because I had to remain silent. ”.
“And it was thrilling because they’ve all grown confident enough to have preferences now. We probably had more respectful disagreements this year as a result, though. You can’t judge this show while being an expert in every category due to the variety of acts. ”.
Simon has had a number of health issues lately, and in May, he thought back on how the incidents—which included two bike accidents—affected his life.
On The Today Show, he admitted, “It wasn’t great; it was painful, but I wasn’t in great shape before the accident. And it wasn’t until I had to do all the stuff afterwards that I realized how unfit I was.
And I was like, ‘My God!'” “And I believe things like that happen for a reason,” Simon continued, adding that he had no immediate plans to stop biking.
He declared, much to the delight of his co-stars, “I’m still going to stay on my bike, I’m obsessed with these things.”.
